2009 Annual Meeting Sandestin, Florida |
|
May 3, 2008
If your winter has been anything like ours (it snowed four days last week), then Santa Barbara, California will be a welcomed destination for the Annual WMA meeting September 28-October 1, 2008.
Ninety minutes north of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara offers sunny beaches, palm trees, wineries, art walks, trolley tours, horseback riding, golfing, kayaking, surfing, and more. You’ll probably want a few extra days to take in the sites, the food, and the many activities that make Santa Barbara so inviting.
Our meetings and events are centered at the Mediterranean-themed Bacara Resort and Spa, located cliff-side overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The Santa Barbara airport is just seven miles from the Resort, about 12 minutes outside of rush-hour. Health and fitness are the focus, so just about every imaginable spoil-you-rotten spa package is available.
You'll find two renowned 18-hole golf courses with preferred tee times for guests: The Sandpiper is adjacent to the resort and is an inspiring combination of challenge and beauty as championship golf brings you to the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Two miles down the road is Glen Annie, a renowned mountainside course with magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains. Glen Annie is a championship level course and has been recommended by both Golf Digest and Fore magazine.
Fifteen miles south of the Resort on scenic Highway 101, the town of Santa Barbara invites you to shop unique stores and boutiques, venture into galleries and museums, and dine on local cuisine.
One of Santa Barbara’s long time signature events is the beach walk art show. It is strictly held as a "Santa Barbara" county resident show and you will find an eclectic mixture of arts and crafts every Sunday. Many of the artists are regulars - they come to the art show each week to show their work, and prices are often quite good. When you check out the art show, stroll down the wharf for ice cream, visit the touch tank at the Natural History Museum's Sea Center and wander out to the end of the wharf to watch the pelicans catch fish off the pier.
We’ve planned a winery tour of the Santa Barbara region. If you’ve ever seen the movie Sideways, this is where it took place. Currently there are over two hundred wineries, vineyards and tasting rooms in Santa Barbara County and the number grows each month.
You can see photos and get all the details on the Bacara Resort and Spa at www.bacararesort.com. A good site for Santa Barbara tourism and many links to touring information is at www.santabarbara.com. With so much to see and do in Santa Barbara, it’ll be hard to settle down to business, but save the dates and join us because Gabe and I look forward to seeing all of you there in September as my year as WMA President winds down to a close.
Cordially,
John Colbert, President Wilbert Manufacturers Association |
